RISE to the occasion with SAP's Process Transformation Starter Pack

We're back with a brand new blog on business process optimisation (BPO) and the pivotal role it plays in ensuring organisations hit the ground running on their S/4HANA transformation journey.

As the end of mainstream maintenance of SAP ECC inches ever closer, SAP is determined to get as many of the two-thirds of organisations that haven't yet migrated to S/4HANA to opt for the move to S/4HANA Cloud under their new RISE model.

To-date, the adoption rate of SAP's subscription based RISE with SAP cloud-only offering has been below expectations, and so SAP is now tempting customers who are existing on-premise S/4HANA users with a 60% credit off the first year's fees, and SAP ECC customers with a lesser credit of 45%. If this proves to be fruitful for SAP, we may see an upsurge of takers in the second half of 2024 and into 2025.

But what do organisations actually get with RISE? In a nutshell, there are 3 main sources of value that RISE for SAP promises to unlock for customers, the latter of which will be the main focus of this blog.

  1. New business capabilities
  2. Cloud delivery capabilities
  3. Continuous business process improvement & optimisation

Business process transformation is a mission critical facet of the transition to S/4HANA. So critical in fact, that SAP has bundled 3 core components of the SAP Signavio Transformation Suite into a ‘Starter Pack’ for all 3 of their RISE with SAP packages (see below). Base, Premium* and Premium Plus* get limited access to Process Insights, Process Manager and Collaboration Hub, a great entry point for organisations about to embark on or prepare for S/4HANA transformation to the Cloud.

*NB premium and premium plus customers also get access to Process Intelligence.

The Starter Pack consists of:

  • SAP Signavio Process Insights: 50 GB with one-time load only
  • SAP Signavio Process Manager: 3 users
  • SAP Signavio Process Collaboration Hub: 10 users

So what do each of the SAP Signavio ‘Starter Pack’ components offer?

SAP Signavio Process Insights (PINS):

SAP Signavio Process Insights (PINS) serves as SAP’s premier solution for process discovery and analysis, and it is the only component of the SAP Signavio Transformation Suite that is natively integrated with SAP. If you have experience with Business Process Monitoring (BPMon) and Business Process Analytics (BPA) in SAP Solution Manager, you will find a familiar foundation in PINS. The same standard best practice KPIs are also leveraged by PINS, making it a natural and powerful evolution. As a cloud-based solution, PINS features a modern and intuitive user interface, enhancing usability. It retains the valuable drilldown capability to analyse source system objects while offering a range of additional features and functionalities. PINS also provides actionable correction and innovation recommendations, making it an excellent tool to kick-start your S/4HANA transformation and process optimisation initiatives.

'In a nutshell, PINS can:

  • Provide instant identification of process inefficiencies, and opportunities for data cleansing, as well as access to hundreds of out-of-the-box KPIs across all Lines of Business (LoBs), readily available insights, and actionable best practice correction & improvement recommendations.
  • Reveal the KPI specific detail list of affected transactions and permit multiple filtering options for more granular analysis.
  • Begin to drive enterprise-wide business transformation by identifying high impact-low effort improvement opportunities, baseline v target value analysis, performance tracking and industry benchmarking.
  • Foster better collaboration and alignment between the Business and IT, and encourage the sharing of KPI analyses and insights between stakeholders.

SAP Signavio Process Manager (PMAN):

This is SAP Signavio’s signature piece in the transformation suite. It is a sophisticated and feature-rich collaborative business process management and modelling application, which plays a key role in S/4HANA transformations. Firstly, it’s where ‘As-Is’ processes are modelled using the industry standard BPMN 2.0 notation, to fully illustrate and visualise the starting point for transformation. Next comes the design of the ‘To-Be’ processes, or desired ‘future state’ against which comparative fit-gap analyses and simulations can be performed to understand what and by how much processes need to change, as well as the resource cost, effort and cycle time impact to reach that future state. The RISE with SAP Starter Pack only permits 3 users for PMAN, but this would allow for a global process owner, a process expert and a modeller to collaborate on business processes.

In summary, PMAN can:

  • Increase transparency of the process landscape with one source of truth for recording and maintaining processes.
  • Underpin process excellence by defining processes and process performance management while detecting and removing inefficient process steps or workflows.
  • Improve process adherence and enable faster identification of non-compliant processes and process steps.
  • Facilitate the approval and changing of processes to make sure they are always up to date and fit for purpose.
  • Easily create, compare and manage process variants.

SAP Signavio Collaboration Hub (CHUB):

As the name suggests, the SAP Signavio Collaboration Hub is where relevant stakeholders can share and collaborate on all things process related. It’s a single gateway to all the other SAP Signavio components and allows users to gain access to process documentation, analyses investigations, and metric information, as well as being able to manage and track process improvement projects. From the hub, process related artefacts can be fine-tuned through collaboration and changes made and published. This ensures teams are regularly informed and kept up to date. The RISE with SAP Starter Pack allows for 10 users to collaborate.

 Key benefits of CHUB include:

  •  Gateway and a single source of truth for all things process related.
  • Manage all process mining and process management projects centrally and in a standardised manner.
  • Keep the organisation informed about all things process related and increase participation and interest.
  • Encourage collaboration with feedback requests.
  • Tailor content such as reports and notifications to specific target user groups.

The RISE with SAP Starter Pack for SAP Signavio provides a very useful introduction to some of the core elements of the transformation suite, despite the limited licenses included per component. It is therefore crucial that those licensed users have the right skillset and mindset to make the most of the tools' capabilities, to establish a strong business case and pave the way for successful enterprise-wide scaling and adoption, as you embark on your journey to successful transformation. Want to know more?
